Manenberg Student Pepper-Sprayed And Stomped By Cops After Swearing Incident Sparks Outrage

A video circulating on social media showing a Manenberg (Cape Town) student being pepper-sprayed and stomped on by police officers has sparked widespread debate and outrage.

The student, identified as Storm Munro, a design student and part-time videographer, says the confrontation took place outside his home on 30 October around 1pm, when police allegedly approached him without cause.

In one of the viral clips, Munro can be heard shouting that he is “not a gangster” as officers manhandle him. After the police appear to walk away, he hurls an expletive-laden insult — calling them “pieces of sh*t” — prompting several armed officers to turn back, pepper-spray him, and stomp on his head.

Munro said that he was preparing to leave for his uncle’s house to work when he noticed police officers nearby.

“I was packing my laptop into my bag when I made eye contact with a police officer walking up the stairs. He rudely called me over to search my bag,” Munro said.
“I asked what justified a search, and when I told them I was a student, one officer said, ‘So what?’ I then voluntarily showed them my laptop, but they still grabbed me and searched my bag.
