Man Shot Dead Inside News Cafe As Gunmen Flee With Laptop And Phone

Two separate murders in Cape Town on Sunday have left communities shaken after gunmen carried out brazen shootings in Table View and Mitchells Plain.
In the latest incident, a 33-year-old man was shot and killed inside a popular restaurant on Marine Circle before the suspects fled with his laptop and cellphone.
Earlier in the day, a 23-year-old man was gunned down while sitting inside his vehicle in Mitchells Plain.
Man Gunned Down Inside Table View News Cafe
According to witnesses, two armed men entered the News Cafe in Marine Circle at around 2pm and opened fire on the victim.
A bystander said the suspects fired six shots before taking the man’s belongings and fleeing the scene.
“Two guys went in and shot the guy. He shot him. Six bullets. They took his phone and laptop,” the witness said.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirmed that Table View police had opened a murder investigation.
“According to reports, Table View SAPS members attended to a shooting incident at the mentioned address and upon arrival at the scene, they found the body of the 33-year-old male with several gunshot wounds laying on his stomach,” Van Wyk said.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.”
Mitchells Plain Shooting Leaves 23-Year-Old Dead
In a separate incident earlier on Monday, a 23-year-old man was shot dead while seated in his car at the corner of Weltevreden Valley and Highlands Drive in Mitchells Plain.
Police said the attack happened at around 8.15am when two suspects approached the vehicle on foot before opening fire.

Police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana said the suspects fled the scene shortly after the shooting.
“This office confirms that a 23-year-old male was shot dead by unknown gunmen in his car at the corner of Weltevreden Valley and Highlands Drive around 8.15pm, Monday, 26 May 2026,” Mpendukana said.
“Reports state that the unknown suspects fled the scene on foot, and Lentegeur SAPS has opened a murder case regarding this incident.”
Police Continue Probe Into Cape Town Murders
No arrests have been made in either case, and police say investigations are ongoing.
Michael Jacobs, chairperson of the Lentegeur Community Police Forum, condemned the Mitchells Plain shooting and called for stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
“As the Lentegeur CPF, we condemn the attack on a driver this morning at the robots in Colorado Park, in which the person died,” Jacobs said.

“The motive for the attack is under police investigation and calls on SAPS and City Law Enforcement agencies to collaborate to ensure the shooters are apprehended and prosecuted.”
