Outrage As Man Praises ‘Black-Free’ Beach In Shocking Racist Video “It’s Nice To Be White”

A racist video circulating on social media has triggered widespread condemnation after a man was filmed celebrating a beach he claimed was largely “free of black people”.

The video, originally posted on TikTok by the account @thebat1969 — which has since been made private — shows beachgoers enjoying a day out while an unidentified man speaks in Afrikaans.

In the clip, the man claims the beach is South Port, believed to be Southport Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

“Lovely here at SouthPort beach, and what’s nice is it’s only white people. Here and there is a ‘previously disadvantaged’, but it’s mostly whites,” he says.

‘It’s Nice to Be White,’ Man Says in Viral Beach Clip

The man continues his commentary by drawing racist comparisons between beachgoers.

“Organised, everyone is behaving. Nobody takes a crap on the beach. Everyone is here with their gazebos, umbrellas, cooler boxes, and bags. They don’t pitch up with a zinc plate and a black three-legged cast iron pot, and they don’t come with their toilet paper because they don’t crap on the beach,” he says.

He goes on to boast:
“Look, lovely, nice day. It’s nice to be white, nice because white behaves themselves. It’s not like the other guys. Lovely day here in South Port.”

The TikTok account where the video was initially uploaded has since gone private. However, the clip has continued to circulate on Facebook and X, drawing sharp criticism from users.

Painful Echoes of South Africa’s Racist Past

While the exact date of the video is unconfirmed, it is believed to have been posted around December 30 or 31, 2025.

The incident has drawn comparisons to past cases of racism that sparked national outrage. In 2016, Durban estate agent Penny Sparrow — who is now deceased — posted a message on Facebook describing black people as “monkeys” following a visit to a Durban beach on New Year’s Day.

Sparrow was later found guilty of hate speech by the Equality Court and was ordered to pay R150,000 to the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation.

Despite the passage of time, the resurfacing of such incidents has renewed debate around racism, accountability and social media conduct in South Africa.
