Man Killed, Woman Injured In Musina Car Attack As Police Hunt Gunmen

A 29-year-old man has been killed and a woman injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in Musina during the early hours of Monday. Police have launched a search for those responsible. The motive for the deadly attack is still unknown.

Police said they received reports of the shooting at around 1.45am in Matswale Extension 09, located in Limpopo’s Vhembe District. Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate. The incident has since sparked a murder investigation.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers found a silver-grey VW Polo parked at the scene with the driver fatally wounded.

“Upon arrival at the scene, members found a silver-grey VW Polo with the victim slumped over in the driver’s seat,” police said, adding that he had been shot several times.

Police also recovered spent cartridges near the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.

Musina Shooting Leaves Woman Injured During Gun Attack

Police confirmed that the deceased was not alone when the shooting happened. A woman who was travelling with him sustained injuries after the gunmen opened fire.

She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for further medical care. Her current condition has not been disclosed by authorities.

Investigators have not yet determined why the pair were targeted. No arrests have been made, and detectives are still following several leads.

Limpopo Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers has strongly condemned the fatal shooting. He instructed investigators to use every available resource to trace those behind the attack.
