Man Dies In Devastating Shack Fire At Phola Park In Ekurhuleni

A tragic fire has claimed the life of a man after flames swept through a shack in Phola Park, Ekurhuleni.

The blaze broke out during the early hours of the morning, quickly engulfing the two-and-a-half-room structure and leaving residents shaken.

According to witnesses, community members were the first to rush to the scene, battling the flames in an attempt to contain the rapid spread while awaiting emergency responders.

Ekurhuleni Firefighters Take Over Scene to Investigate Cause

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services arrived shortly afterwards and managed to extinguish the blaze. The site was then handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation into the cause of the fatal incident.

Emergency Services Spokesperson Maswati Mdluli issued a firm warning to residents in the wake of the tragedy, urging heightened caution as temperatures continue to drop.

“We urge the community to exercise caution when using heating appliances during this period of dropping temperatures in the province.

“Appliances should always be used safely and in the presence of a responsible adult. For all life-threatening emergencies, please contact our Ekurhuleni Emergency Control Centre.”
