Man Dies After Falling From Hotel Sky Rooftop In Cape Town, Inquest Underway

A tragic incident unfolded in Cape Town’s city centre on Monday afternoon when a man reportedly jumped to his death from the rooftop of Hotel Sky. The man is said to have purchased a ticket for the Sky-HI ride, a popular thrill attraction, before the fatal fall.

Emergency services and police rushed to the scene shortly before 4pm, where the man’s body was discovered. The incident immediately prompted a lockdown of the area and temporary road closures around the busy precinct.

Road Closures and Delays Near Hotel Sky

Local authorities implemented traffic diversions as forensic teams and SAPS detectives processed the scene. Commuters were urged to avoid the area and expect delays as roads remained partially closed throughout the evening.

“Crime scene experts and Cape Town Central SAPS detectives are currently on the scene at the mentioned address combing the area for clues,” said Captain Frederick van Wyk, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Police Register Inquest and Launch Investigation

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the man’s race, age, and cause of death, while authorities have opened an inquest docket as part of the ongoing investigation.

At this stage, the man’s identity has not been released. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact Cape Town Central police.
