85-Year-Old Man Charged With Murder After Stabbing Son To Death

An 85-year-old man, Gert Bruhns, has been charged with murder after his 56-year-old son died from injuries sustained in a shooting incident on April 19, 2025.

The  murder victim was shot in the neck at a residence on Midhurst Avenue in Bainsvlei and later succumbed to his injuries while in hospital.

Arrest For Murder

Bruhns was arrested shortly after the murder incident while attempting to flee and was found with a loaded firearm and additional ammunition.

He appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder, and his case was postponed to April 29, 2025, for a formal bail application.

SAPS Arrests Illegal Miner

In an unrelated event, the South African Police Service (SAPS) conducted Operation Vala Umgodi, a targeted operation against integrated illegal mining, in the Springs policing precinct, Ekurhuleni District, on April 22, 2025.

The operation resulted in the arrest of one illegal immigrant and the confiscation of various items linked to illegal mining activities.
