Man Brutally Killed In Front Of Daughter: RUSA Hunts Couple On The Run In Shakashead

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has launched an urgent appeal to the public for help in tracking down a couple accused of a brutal murder in Shakashead, KwaZulu-Natal. The pair allegedly killed 33-year-old Doctor William Mputhi, a single father, in full view of his six-year-old daughter on Saturday evening.

According to the victim’s mother-in-law, who contacted RUSA, Mputhi had moved from QwaQwa in the Free State to Shakashead with his daughter after losing his wife in 2020. He ran a construction company, Mr Cladding, serving areas including Ballito, Umhlanga, La Lucia, and Morningside.

Loan Dispute Escalates into Deadly Confrontation

The incident began around 11:30 a.m. when Mputhi was assaulted by a loan shark over a R750 debt taken by his tenants.

Mputhi had stood as guarantor for the loan in an attempt to help them. Humiliated in front of his daughter, he returned home and confronted the female tenant, later identified as Nicolene Pillay, 34.

During the argument, Pillay allegedly threatened Mputhi, saying she would have him killed when her husband came home. She then locked herself in her room until that evening.

When her husband, Mevedran Reddy, 34, returned around 6:30 p.m., the couple confronted Mputhi outside his home. Witnesses reported that Reddy attacked him with a sickle, repeatedly stabbing and slashing his chest, ribs, and stomach while shouting, “Nobody will touch my wife and live.”

Suspects Flee with Child After Brutal Attack

After the attack, witnesses saw the couple fleeing with their three-year-old child and a blood-stained sickle. They reportedly escaped by hopping over a fence before vanishing.

Mputhi was rushed to a medical facility in Tongaat but was declared dead on arrival. RUSA confirmed that both suspects have since deleted their social media accounts, making them harder to trace.

According to reports, Pillay previously lived in Richards Bay, while Reddy worked at a towing company in Shakaskraal. The couple had moved to Shakashead only four months before the fatal incident.
