Man Arrested For Shooting Ex-Partner At Workplace

A 45-year-old Mpumalanga man, Johannes Khoza, has appeared before the Mbibane Magistrate’s Court after shooting ex-partner in the stomach.

Khoza is facing charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects was remanded in custody, and the case was postponed to May 7.

This was his second court appearance, following his initial appearance on March 3, where he was also remanded in custody.

A Brutal Attack

According to provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the victim was at her workplace in Leeuwfontein, Vaalbank, when she was called outside by her ex-male friend, Khoza.

He allegedly threatened her with death, and when she peeped through the window, he shot her in the stomach.

Khoza then fled the scene, leaving the injured woman to be taken to hospital for medical treatment. She has since been discharged from hospital.

Combating Gender-Based Violence

Acting provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed Khoza’s arrest, condemning the acts of violence allegedly displayed by him.

Mkhwanazi emphasized that the police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and community groups, will continue to combat gender-based violence and femicide.

The police investigation led to the discovery of a .38 Special revolver and live ammunition in the yard, which were hidden under a stone.

Khoza was arrested and subsequently charged.
