Popular Businesswoman and Royal AM football club owner Shawn Mkhize, generally called “MaMkhize” has come under deep criticism online after a video of her handing cash rewards to some of her players after a football match surfaced online
The video was recorded over the weekend after a derby-win against her team’s city neighbours, Maritzburg United.
The fiercely contested DStv Premiership game between the two teams sparked up late drama when her team, Royal AM scored in the 71st minute only for Maritzburg to equalise 15 minutes later, Royal AM however grabbed a late winner in the 94th minute which sparked joyous celebrations around the field and amongst fans in the Chatsworth Stadium
A video that has gone viral, shows her entering the field with the cash after her side walked away with bragging rights following their KZN derby win by 2-1 against Maritzburg United at Chatsworth Stadium.
But the game itself wasn’t the most dramatic scene. The highlight of the game happened after the final whistle was blown and MaMhizi was seen dancing towards the field in the company of her son, taking cash out of a huge brown envelope and handing it to some players.
She and her son danced in excitement as she handed out the cash with someone saying out loud “You play for the best, come take your sweets, get in line!”
From the video, it can be deduced that not everyone was happy with her move as one of the Royal AM players who perhaps did not play in the game could be heard telling the club coach to stop her from making such demeaning gestures by bringing money to the football pitch.
“Please coach, tell them to not come with the money here…” said the player.
Since the video went viral on Twitter, many football fans have slammed MaMkhize for her unprofessional move with many saying football should be about passion to play the game.
With the backlash, it is yet to be seen if MaMkhize and her club would be let off unpunished but sources have claimed the matter is being looked into.

This is amateurish behaviour which @OfficialPSL must never allow. @BabizebonkeZ @SuperSportTV this is not what we signed for. Nothing wrong with rewarding your players but order and decency must be a bare minimum standard to be observed pic.twitter.com/kKsOUaqSyP
