MaMkhize Appointed President Of Mbabane Highlanders FC After Royal AM And SARS Tax Drama

South African businesswoman and media personality Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is making headlines once again—this time beyond South Africa’s borders. MaMkhize has been officially appointed as president of Eswatini’s Premier League club, Mbabane Highlanders FC.

On Sunday, she shared the news with her followers on social media, captioning her Instagram post: “A new chapter written with purpose, vision and heart. Leading with honour, the Highlanders way.”

She followed the announcement with a brief message on her Instagram Stories: “Bounce back, bounce back.”

The appointment marks a significant comeback for MaMkhize following months of public scrutiny and financial controversy surrounding her former club, Royal AM.

From Curatorship to Comeback: The Royal AM Downfall

MaMkhize’s return to football leadership follows a challenging period with Royal AM FC, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) team she once helmed. Earlier this year, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) conducted a raid due to outstanding tax debts reportedly amounting to R40 million.

In March, Royal AM was listed for public auction after SARS obtained a preservation order and appointed a curator, Jaco Venter, to manage the club’s assets. Amid the turmoil, reports surfaced of unpaid salaries, with the team even failing to honor a scheduled Betway Premiership fixture against Chippa United due to a player strike.

Breaking her silence in January, MaMkhize issued a statement addressing the unpaid wages:

“Royal AM wishes to address the situation regarding the nonpayment of salaries for December, affecting our players, technical team and staff. We acknowledge the hardship this has caused and extend our apologies to those affected, including their families.”
