Mamelodi Sundowns supporters caused chaos at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday following their team’s MTN 8 semi-final loss to Orlando Pirates.

The Buccaneers secured their place in the final for a fourth consecutive season after defeating Sundowns 4-1 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Iqraam Rayners put the Brazilians’ ahead in the first half, but Kamogelo Sebelebele equalised for Pirates in the second half to force the match into a shootout.

Sundowns vs Pirates Penalty Shootout Drama

During the tense penalty decider, the Brazilians’ Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende missed crucial spot kicks, while Lebo Mothiba managed to convert their only penalty.

For Pirates, Deon Hotto, Sipho Mbule, Abdul Mariko, and Tshegofatso Mabasa all found the back of the net to seal the victory.

The result sparked unrest among the team’s fans, with videos circulating online showing supporters blocking the team bus and clashing with police and security personnel inside the stadium.

Management of Mamelodi Sundowns has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
