Malema Mocks Andile Mngxitama Over Foreign Workers: “He’s Tweeting From A Sick Bed”

“In 2016 already, we said we need 60% of those employed per company to be South Africans but no-one is going to touch a foreigner because no foreigner has hired himself or herself,” said Malema.

On Wednesday, EFF leader Julius Malema criticised BLF leader Andile Mngxitama for referring to the red berets as “flip-floppers” on the issue of foreigners in South Africa.

Following Malema’s declaration on January 8 that the red berets would be visiting businesses in the hospitality industry to demand that more locals be hired than foreigners, Mngxitama fired a broadside at the EFF.

Many, including Mngxitama, saw Malema’s announcement as a total reversal of the party’s open-border policy.

Speaking in Kagiso on the West Rand Malema said EFF adversaries were determined to misinterpret the party, even though nothing had changed on the open-border policy. He explained that the EFF was just advocating for the localization of jobs in the hospitality industry.

After mocking the EFF for now being “led by the Patriotic Alliance,” which has long advocated for the deportation of illegal immigrants, Malema said Mngxitama should focus on his health.

Mngxitama tweeted: “The pseudo Pan-Africanists (EFF) of open borders to move tobacco for [Adriano] Mazzotti [EFF funder] are now tailoring Gayton McKenzie.

“The PA is leading [EFF] are trying to catch up. What happened to the open border policy? Flip-flop! BLF has long said focus on the employer not the desperate.”

Malema claimed he didn’t have time to respond to Mngxitama’s tweets from his “sick bed.” The EFF had long claimed that immigrants working in restaurants and bars did not “hire themselves” and should not be easy targets, according to Malema.

“In 2016 already, we said we need 60% of those employed per company to be South Africans but no-one is going to touch a foreigner because no foreigner has hired himself or herself,” said Malema.

“People have made it their business to just misunderstand us. It is from fools like that sick Andile Mngxitama. Instead of concentrating on taking medication and healing himself, he involves himself on matters that are beyond sick people.

“He is tweeting from a sick bed. I cannot waste my time with such characters.”

Malema stated that the EFF would launch a wave of mass protests against businesses who recruit foreigners at the cost of South Africans because they are simple to exploit and earn slave wages.

In this context, Malema will pay a personal visit to a restaurant at the Mall of Africa that he claims employs entirely foreign workers. Malema and other EFF leaders will travel around the country to lobby for job localization to benefit South Africans.

He went on to say that the EFF’s stance was not just about immigrants, but also about domestic employment. He stated that no employer in Polokwane, for example, would be allowed to hire entirely from Durban and vice versa.
