Major Blow To Smuggling Syndicates In Massive R3.6 Million Recovery

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against smuggling, the Limpopo police have recovered smuggled goods worth an estimated R3.6 million from a warehouse in Musina.

The intelligence-driven operation, was conducted on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Stolen And Illicit Goods Seized

The recovered goods include over 300 boxes of Adidas sneakers and soccer boots, stolen from Durban Harbor on March 13, 2025.

Originally imported from Indonesia, these items were unlawfully diverted and ended up in the warehouse.

Additionally, 100 boxes of illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value of R600,000 were seized.

Preliminary investigations have linked the warehouse to a well-known businessman in Musina.

Combating Organized Crime

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the operation, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration.

He said, “Smuggling and organized crime pose serious threats to the South African economy and safety.

“SAPS will continue to intensify efforts to disrupt criminal networks and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
