Maitland Flying Squad Arrests 32-Year-Old Female For Illegal Trade

Members of the Maitland Flying Squad have arrested a 32-year-old female suspect caught selling crayfish without the necessary permits.

This is a significant arrest in Athlone as part of their ongoing efforts to combat illegal trade activities.

According to the Squad, the violation led to her detention.

Arrest Following Suspicious Activity

A statement on Tuesday, by the South Africa Police Service disclosed that, while patrolling in Athlone, officers received a tip-off about a person selling crayfish from a vehicle.

Upon investigation, they found the suspect in Webleys parking area carrying a large bag.

A search of the bag revealed 187 units of crayfish tails, but the woman could not provide the required permit for possession.

Suspect Detained And Charged

The female suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the Athlone SAPS station.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries were called to the station for further processing.

The 32-year-old suspect will soon appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to illegal possession and trade of crayfish.
