‘I Was Selfish’ — Umndeni Star Mahlalentabeni Breaks Silence After Christmas Eve Suicide Attempt, Moja Love Fires Back

Umndeni star Flora Mahlalentabeni Makena has finally spoken out after a harrowing Christmas Eve incident that left Mzansi shaken.

The reality TV personality — known for appearing on Moja Love’s Umndeni, which profiles traditional healer Maseko and his many wives — broke down in an emotional video circulating on social media, apologising to her followers after attempting to take her own life.

Initially, Mahlalentabeni’s family confirmed reports that she had died. Just a day later, the story took a dramatic turn when it emerged that she had woken up in ICU, after allegedly ingesting poison in an attempt to end her life.

In her emotional video, she did not hold back. “I was very selfish, and I apologise for what I did,” she said.

“I did not intend to cause harm, but the comments people made eventually got to me. I am also human.”

She explained that although she appeared strong online, relentless TikTok comments, financial stress, and emotional exhaustion eventually broke her down.

Mahlalentabeni alleged that her mental health struggles were worsened by an ongoing dispute with Moja Love, claiming the channel failed to pay her for her work on Umndeni.

According to her, she has been trying to resolve the matter since October, has recordings of conversations, and feels deeply disrespected.

“I have a problem with Moja Love because they failed to pay me the money I earned,” she said.
“They no longer speak to me directly — they communicate through my mother.”

She further alleged that she was told she would not be paid because of her social media activity, adding that she was later blocked after confronting the issue.

“Instead of paying me, they started telling me how poor my family is.”

Moja Love Responds: ‘Deliberate Distortion and Malicious Conduct’

Moja Love has since broken its silence — and the response was anything but soft.

In a strongly worded statement, channel spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete said the broadcaster initially chose to remain quiet but felt compelled to respond due to escalating attacks.

She distanced the channel from Mahlalentabeni’s alleged suicide attempt and slammed what she described as misinformation driven by disgraced former employee Mxolisi “Zinja” Kubheka, who was allegedly fired for corruption.

“He took advantage of Mahlalentabeni, someone with serious mental challenges,” Cekete claimed.

The channel further condemned what it called deliberate distortion involving Mahlalentabeni, Bishop Julius Moloi, and Zinja — insisting Moja Love had no involvement in her personal struggles or in a suicide note circulating online.

One particularly eyebrow-raising line read: “The false suicide claim by Mahlalentabeni is deeply concerning and raises questions about her mental well-being and credibility.”

That statement alone has since sparked intense debate online.
