Madlanga Commission Receives Postponement Bid From Suliman Carrim

The Madlanga Commission has confirmed that it has received a formal application to postpone the scheduled appearance of controversial businessman Suliman Carrim.

Carrim was expected to testify before the commission on Friday, but his legal team has requested additional time to prepare him to give evidence.

The application follows an unsuccessful legal bid by Carrim to avoid appearing before the commission altogether. His court challenge was dismissed on Thursday, clearing the way for his testimony to proceed unless a postponement is granted.

Carrim Linked to SAPS Tender Allegations

Carrim has been named by multiple witnesses during the commission’s hearings. Testimony alleges that he received kickbacks from tender tycoon Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

According to the evidence presented, the alleged payments were made in exchange for Carrim using his political influence to secure a R360 million South African Police Service (SAPS) tender for a company linked to Matlala.

Commission Confirms Application on Record

The commission confirmed the postponement request during proceedings on Friday.

“There is also a postponement application from Mr Carrim, who was subpoenaed to appear today,” said the commission’s evidence leader, Mathew Chaskalson.

The commission is expected to consider the application before deciding whether Carrim’s appearance will be rescheduled.
