Madlanga Commission Seeks Closed-Door Testimony For Upcoming Witness

Evidence leaders at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry have announced plans to request that their upcoming witness give evidence in camera, meaning the session would be closed to both media and public observers.

The commission is set to resume hearings on Monday, following a brief pause.

Crime Intelligence Chief Khumalo Not Testifying in Upcoming Session

Last week, Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, head of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence, appeared before the commission for three days before falling ill.

While Khumalo is still required to provide evidence over the course of an additional two days, Madlanga Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed he will not be the next witness to testify.

If the commission approves the application, hearings will continue in camera until further notice. Michaels emphasised that, despite the temporary closed sessions, the commission remains dedicated to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout its proceedings.
