Madlanga Commission Recommendations To Get Due Diligence, Says Acting Police Chief Puleng Dimpane

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane has assured Parliament that recommendations emerging from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will be approached with the necessary diligence.

Dimpane was addressing Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, where both the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) presented their 2026/27 Budget, Annual Performance Plan, and Strategic Plan.

She emphasised that the work of the commission, along with Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee examining national security concerns, forms a critical part of broader efforts to combat crime in South Africa.

SAPS Priorities Include Madlanga Commission And Crime Crackdown

Dimpane highlighted that the commission’s recommendations are firmly embedded within SAPS’ top priorities in its strategy to tackle crime and corruption.

She says, “Chair, just as the reminder as I indicated, we do have eight of these priorities at the top of this list, the fight against crime, corruption, including the Madlanga Commission recommendations, fight against organised crime and criminal syndicates at number three.”

Her remarks positioned the commission’s outcomes alongside key law enforcement objectives, signalling their importance in shaping future policing actions.

Focus On Gang Violence Illegal Mining And Gun Crime

The acting commissioner outlined several urgent focus areas, including organised crime, gang activity, and illegal mining operations.

Dimpane says, “We have to ensure that we deal with the gang violence and illegal mining. Number four, we have to ensure that there is a multi-sectoral approach in tackling crime, including violent crime, particularly against women and children. At number five, we need to ensure we tackle gun crime.”

She stressed the need for coordinated efforts across sectors to address violent crime, especially crimes affecting vulnerable groups such as women and children.
