Madlanga Commission Hears How KT Molefe’s Son And Nephew Are Evading Police

Police are intensifying their search for Lucky “Tshepo” Molefe and Thapelo Molefe, the nephew and son of murder-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe. The pair have continued to evade arrest despite being wanted in connection with a major corruption scandal involving state-owned Transnet.

The two are linked to a tender scheme that resulted in Transnet awarding a contract to a company accused of gross price inflation. The matter came to light when Vereeniging-based firm Q-Tech — a long-time Transnet contractor — exposed irregularities in the bidding process.

Their whistle-blowing reportedly triggered a deadly response. In April last year, Q-Tech employee Armand Swart was fatally shot outside the company’s premises in what authorities have described as a carefully orchestrated hit.

Molefe Family Accused of Obstructing Justice

The ongoing Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has now revealed that members of the Molefe family allegedly played a role in helping Lucky and Thapelo evade justice. Testimony before the commission suggests efforts were made to conceal their whereabouts and prevent their capture.

On Thursday, a voice note was played before the commission in which Katiso Molefe’s girlfriend, Fundiswa, instructs Lucky’s sister, Lebo, to warn him about the police search.

“Lebo, can you please tell Tshepo that he needs to stay far away from Soweto, and he must not come to work until further notice. He must not be found anywhere, and his phones must remain switched off,” Fundiswa can be heard saying.

Voice Note Reveals Plans to Help Suspect Hide

According to Witness B, the investigating officer in the Swart murder case, Lucky is known by his family as “Tshepo”. In the same recording, Fundiswa continues giving detailed instructions to help him remain undetected.

“Everything to do with him must not be found until further notice. The lawyer says so, and the brothers say so. They say if he does not have a place to stay, they will organise one for him to stay there for a while. So please, can you pass this message to Tshepo,” she says.

Fundiswa further suggests steps to avoid police surveillance, adding, “I told him that he must remove the tracker from the RS4 because they want it. If he wants to go to the mall, he needs to wear a cap or put on some kind of headgear or spectacles.

“So when Tshepo wants to get drunk, tell him that I said he must please buy a bottle and drink at home, please, until further notice.”

Police continue to track down both Lucky and Thapelo as investigations into the Transnet tender corruption and Swart’s murder deepen.
