Madlanga Commission Gives Mogotsi Five Days To Answer Corruption Allegations

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has officially implicated North West businessman Brown Mogotsi in a widening scandal involving alleged criminal interference and political protection within South Africa’s policing system.

According to reports, the Commission has issued a Rule 3 notice to Mogotsi, formally notifying him that evidence before the inquiry places him at the centre of serious allegations.

These include unlawful interference in SAPS operations, links to organised crime, and a strategic association with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is currently on a leave of absence.

The notice, dated 7 October, highlights the gravity of the claims and informs Mogotsi of his right to respond. He has been given five days to submit an affidavit providing his version of events.

Madlanga Commission: Evidence Points to Criminal and Political Collusion

According to the Commission, the evidence presented against Mogotsi suggests involvement in decisions that compromised the integrity of the SAPS, collusion with criminal networks to manipulate internal police structures, and a possible role in shielding illicit operations through political connections.

The inquiry also revealed WhatsApp messages that exposed Mogotsi’s alleged dealings with underworld figures. These messages reportedly showed how Mogotsi leveraged his ANC connections to solicit money from criminals, some of which was allegedly used to fund party activities.

Further evidence revealed that Matlala, a known associate, paid Mogotsi hundreds of thousands of rands for protection and access to classified SAPS documents.

Despite these claims, Mogotsi stated he is ready to appear before the Commission if required to testify and clarify his involvement in the matter.

Minister Mchunu’s Suspension Adds Pressure to Inquiry

The developments come in the wake of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s temporary suspension.

Mchunu is accused of dissolving the elite Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) — a specialised unit investigating politically motivated assassinations — allegedly to protect drug trafficking cartels and politically connected crime syndicates.

The Madlanga Commission, chaired by Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, was established to probe deep-rooted corruption, political interference, and criminal infiltration within South Africa’s justice system.

Justice Madlanga retains the legal power to compel Mogotsi’s appearance or response, regardless of his cooperation. The inquiry’s findings are expected to play a crucial role in exposing the extent of political-criminal collusion undermining national law enforcement.
