Madlanga Commission: Brown Mogotsi Insists His Explosive Claims Will Be Backed By Witnesses

Controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi remains convinced that his sensational testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will be supported by additional witnesses still scheduled to appear.

Under cross-examination, Mogotsi repeatedly failed to give straightforward responses about his alleged connections to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and accused underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Commission evidence leaders probed message exchanges between Mogotsi, Matlala and Mchunu, accusing the businessman of weaving a series of inconsistent explanations.

The inquiry heard claims involving CIA operatives, coded communications and allegations of political interference in high-stakes police investigations — all from a man who describes himself as a secret agent.

Madlanga Commission Scrutiny Intensifies Over ‘James Bond-Level’ Testimony

Mogotsi’s narrative, at times, resembled a spy thriller — a comparison echoed during proceedings. According to chief evidence leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson, the testimony could have been lifted directly from a James Bond script.

“I’m reminded of what the villain says in one of those early James Bond movies: ‘Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action’. We’re at about eight times and you want us to believe they’re all just coincidences?”

Throughout questioning, Mogotsi appeared visibly unsettled, often scratching his head and fumbling for answers that failed to align with earlier statements.

Claims of Political Funding and Contradictions Under Fire

His contradictory replies drew sharp attention from the commissioners and Chaskalson, who pressed him on the credibility of his account.

Particular focus was placed on allegations that Mogotsi played a role in securing financial support for Mchunu’s presidential ambitions through Matlala.

As the inquiry continues, the commission awaits further testimony to determine whether Mogotsi’s claims will indeed find corroboration or unravel further under scrutiny.
