Macron Applauds South Africa For Hosting Historic G20 Summit In Johannesburg

French President Emmanuel Macron has hailed South Africa for successfully hosting the G20 Leaders’ Summit, marking the first time the global gathering has taken place on African soil.

The two-day summit, which concluded yesterday, was held at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg and drew world leaders to the continent for a milestone event.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the summit, Macron said South Africa should take pride in its role as host of the landmark gathering.
Macron Highlights Significance of Africa’s First G20 Summit
“The first G20 Summit in our history on the African continent. It’s a great achievement and I think South Africa can be proud of this achievement. Second, where the African Union has a seat, which is very important and a great achievement,” Macron said.

His remarks echoed broader international appreciation for South Africa’s leadership during the summit, which featured prominent discussions on global cooperation, economic growth and Africa’s increasing representation in world affairs.
SA Praised for Progress as Leaders Reflect on Summit Impact
Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube said the G20 weekend felt like a positive turning point for the country. She noted developments ranging from South Africa’s removal from the grey-list to job creation gains recorded in the last quarter.
Gwarube said the atmosphere around the summit instilled a renewed sense of momentum for South Africa moving forward.
