M7 Truck Crash Claims One Life, Leaves Another Injured

One person has died and another sustained injuries following a multiple-truck collision on the M7 highway in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday morning.
The crash occurred on the Durban-bound route before the Bellville off-ramp at approximately 8:30am, prompting a large emergency response.
‘Total Carnage’ as Trucks Collide on M7
Emergency services arrived at a chaotic scene after one truck reportedly crashed into the back of another that is believed to have broken down on the freeway.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson described the situation:
“They found total carnage as a truck had collided with the rear of a secondary truck, believed to have been broken down on the freeway.
“Paramedics assessed the scene and found that two occupants were in the rear of the truck. Unfortunately, one of them, a passenger, her male, believed to be in his 40s, had sustained fatal injuries, and there was nothing paramedics could do for him; he was declared deceased at the scene,” Jamieson said.
Driver Injured, Rushed to Hospital
The driver of the truck sustained moderate injuries and received treatment from life-support paramedics before being transported to hospital for further care.
Authorities have not released further details about the injured driver’s condition.
The crash led to significant disruptions, with the freeway closed for an extended period while emergency teams worked on the scene.
“The freeway was closed for quite some time to allow emergency personnel to work on the scene with investigations and clearing of the scene. I’d advise motorists to avoid this area at all costs,” Jamieson added.
The cause of the collision remains unclear, and the South African Police Service is investigating.
