Lusikisiki Massacre Trial: Alleged Mastermind Accuses State Witness Of Drug Dealer Murder

Alleged mastermind Mzukisi Ndamase in the Lusikisiki massacre trial has accused key state witness Lwando Abi of murdering an alleged drug dealer in KwaBhaca.
Representing himself in court, Ndamase cross-examined Abi on Wednesday at the Mthatha High Court, alleging his involvement in the August 2024 shooting that claimed the life of Mncedisi Gijana, a suspected drug dealer.
“This was about control over the drug trade,” Ndamase told the court, highlighting the complex dynamics behind Gijana’s death weeks before the infamous Lusikisiki massacre.
Conflicting Accounts Over Drug-Related Killings
During proceedings, Abi testified that Ndamase orchestrated Gijana’s murder to dominate drug operations in the KwaBhaca area.
However, Ndamase pushed back, claiming that Abi was sent by a Western Cape 28 gang to expand their drug territory into the Eastern Cape, effectively turning the tables on the State witness.
The accusations add another layer to a case already marked by unexpected twists and ongoing investigations into drug-related violence in the region.
