Lotus River Drive-By Shooting Claims Two Lives As Police Probe Possible Gang Links

Two men were killed in a late-night drive-by shooting in Lotus River, deepening concerns about violent crime in the area and prompting an intensive police investigation.

The incident unfolded on Sunday night in Simon Road, where the victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Initial reports suggest that one of the deceased was an alleged skollie, raising questions about whether the attack may be linked to gang activity. Police have not confirmed a motive.

Police investigate double murder in Lotus River shooting

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Grassy Park detectives have opened two counts of murder following the incident.

Twigg said: “Grassy Park police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Sunday night, 8 February 2026, at about 9.25pm in Simon Road, Lotus River.

“Upon arrival on the scene, they found two males who sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies. Both males aged 35 and 36 were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation.”

Community urged to assist amid gang violence concerns

Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) Public Relations Officer Howard Downes appealed to residents to come forward with information that could assist investigators.

Downes said: “We will be addressing the community and we will be going into the areas very soon as we have school interventions planned and community outreaches with regards to gang violence and drugs in the community.”
