Look! Isipingo Taxi Boss Gunned Down In Drive-By Shooting

The Isipingo community has been left shaken following the brutal murder of 62-year-old taxi owner Krish Reddy, who was killed in a suspected drive-by shooting just metres from his home on Wednesday morning.

Reddy, the owner of Mastermind Taxis, was ambushed at an intersection in Isipingo Hills before 10am. According to community leader Aiden David, Reddy’s vehicle was boxed in and “sprayed with bullets from both sides” by two gunmen travelling in the car behind him. His vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a wall.

“Police found 25 AK47 bullet shells at the scene. It was a gruesome crime scene,” David said. “We hope that witnesses or anyone with information contacts the police so arrests can be made.”

Authorities are investigating, but many in the community suspect the killing is linked to ongoing tensions in the local taxi industry—a sector long marred by turf wars and deadly rivalries.

“They Knew He Was No Ordinary Man”: Daughter Speaks Out

Reddy’s daughter, Sharlet Singh, believes her father’s murder was not random but a calculated hit tied to taxi-related conflicts.

“My brother thereafter received the call that the victim was our dad. We believe his killing is linked to the taxi industry,” she said. “The people who murdered him are evil, cruel, heartless and jealous monsters, who felt threatened by his presence. They knew he was no ordinary man, so they had to use such force on him. They never had the intellect to fight with him in any other way, so they chose to kill him.”

Singh described her father as a pillar of strength in the family and a man with a heart for his community.

“He was humble and took care of his family. My dad was charitable and ran feeding schemes for his community. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family,” she said, tearfully adding, “My father was supposed to be enjoying his life but it was snuffed out. We were making plans to celebrate Father’s Day with him, but now we have to plan his funeral.”

“My dad will never know how truly grateful we are for all the sacrifices he made for us. He will never know how much we loved him and how much we will miss him.”

Ispingo Community Calls for Justice Amid Rising Fear

The brazen attack has triggered widespread concern among Isipingo residents. Junaid Iqbal, chairperson of the Isipingo Community Policing Forum, said the community is rattled.

“At this stage, we cannot speculate if the shooting was linked to the taxi industry. Police are investigating, but as a forum, we are deeply concerned about the drive-by shooting in our community,” he said.

“This senseless act of violence has left our residents shaken and fearful for their safety. I urge the authorities to take immediate action to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Iqbal added that the forum is actively working with law enforcement to improve safety in the area. He urged anyone with knowledge of the attack to come forward and assist police in their investigation.
