Lockdown period has left the Lockdown actress Linda Sebezo struggling to feed her family as she has to depend on her mother’s pensions to feed.

The actress who entertains us with her roles on Isibaya and Lockdown took it to her social media to express her disappointment at the way the government is treating artists during these trying times.

Linda Sebezo said her application for a relief grant from the department was declined as she doesn’t qualify. She said this is unfair because as a freelancer she only gets paid when she works. Since there’s a nationwide lockdown she can’t work and is making no money to care for her family.

“I’m so disappointed by the minister of Arts&Culture. Artists are some of the people that are hardest hit by this lockdown, we are told that we don’t qualify for the relief funding, where are we supposed to go, what are we supposed to eat. We are expected to provide for our families from empty pockets. We are taxpayers, contributing 25% to tax yet the government is still not able to assist us [sic],” she posted on Twitter.

The actress went as far as letting us know that at this point she lives on her mother’s pension and from other people who are willing to help. She also explained that she knows three artists who have lost their lives during this lockdown as a result of depression

“As a freelance artist, it’s no work no pay for me. We still get calls for school fees to be paid. I have to rely on my mother’s pension to put food on the table, such a sad reality.

I wake up today with such a heavy heart, feeling let down by our government. Siyenzeni engaka to be treated this way.”

We hope all those entertainers who have been excluded from government financial assistance get the help that they need because as long as the lockdown is still in place kusazoba rough struuu.
