Limpopo Woman Accused Of Setting Dogs On Domestic Worker To Apply For Bail

A Limpopo woman accused of assaulting her house helper and setting dogs on her is expected to appear in the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court in Tzaneen on Tuesday for a formal bail application.

The accused made a brief first appearance last Thursday, facing charges of pointing a firearm and assault. She was arrested last week after her employee, Priscilla Mmusi, was found injured in the street and taken to hospital.

House Helper Recounts Harrowing Ordeal

Speaking about the incident, Mmusi said the ordeal began after she reported for work and was asked by her employer to accompany her to a local liquor outlet to buy alcohol.

“When we arrived there, they refused to sell it to her because her husband and the police had instructed them not to do so — they said she becomes violent when drunk,” Mmusi said.

However, the woman allegedly persuaded the shop manager to sell her the alcohol. Once home, she reportedly offered Mmusi a drink, which she refused, claiming it had been mixed with another liquid. The woman allegedly insisted until she gave in.

They later went to fetch the employer’s child from school, and then to a restaurant, where another altercation ensued. “She started fighting with a waiter, and I intervened,” Mmusi recounted.

Upon returning home, things took a darker turn. “I heard her talking to herself, saying black people were taking her for granted. A few minutes later, she came to me and said she wanted to shoot me,” said Mmusi.

The woman allegedly opened a safe, retrieved a rifle, and pointed it at her employee before putting it back. She then allegedly called her two dogs and set them on Mmusi, who fainted and later woke up in a local clinic with multiple injuries.

Mmusi was treated at Letaba Hospital and has since been discharged. She is now recovering at home ahead of the upcoming court proceedings.

Community Demands Justice After Woman’s Arrest

Community leader Given Mlondobodzi said residents were planning to protest outside court, calling for the accused to be denied bail.

“We are not saying this is a racial issue, but no human being should treat another person like that,” he said.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba did not respond to media queries regarding the case.
