Limpopo Teacher, 56, Jailed Over Alleged Rape Of 18-Year-Old Learner

A 56-year-old male teacher has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court in connection with the alleged rape of an 18-year-old learner.

The case was heard on Wednesday and has since been postponed to 25 March to allow for further investigation.

Alleged Incident Linked to Confiscated Exam Cellphone By Teacher

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the suspect was arrested following an incident reported at a secondary school within the Mahwelereng policing area.

“It is alleged that the learner was previously confronted by an educator after being suspected of using a cellphone during an examination. The cellphone was confiscated, and she was later instructed to return with money in order to retrieve it.
