Limpopo Police Officer Jailed For 8 Years After Son’s Viral Rape Video

A former Limpopo police constable will spend eight years in prison for sexually assaulting her own son, a case that came to light after a video of the abuse went viral in 2023.

Viral Video Exposes Police Officer’s Crimes Against Her Child

The 42-year-old former Groblersdal SAPS officer, whose identity remains protected to safeguard her son, received her sentence in the Middelburg Regional Court on Thursday.

She pleaded guilty to sexual assault, production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. The case exploded into public view when visual evidence circulated widely online.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Monica Nyuswa revealed the disturbing background:

“In 2020, the woman approached a traditional healer, who advised her to bathe her with traditional medicine and simulate sexual intercourse as part of a ritual to dispel evil spirits.”

Traditional Healer’s Ritual Leads to Extortion Scheme

The court heard how the traditional healer manipulated the situation for criminal gain. “The healer instructed her to film the act and send it to him, after which he extorted money from her, threatening to release the video if she failed to comply,” said Nyuswa.

While the former policewoman claimed no actual intercourse occurred, the NPA emphasized the severity of her actions.

“While she claimed that no actual intercourse took place, the fact that such an act was simulated stands as testament to the extreme violation of trust and safeguarding that should exist between a parent and child,” the NPA stated.

Eight-Year Effective Sentence for Multiple Offences

The court handed down a comprehensive sentence that reflects the gravity of the crimes. The mother received ten years for sexual assault, with two years suspended.

She received additional two-year sentences for both production and possession of child pornography, with the possession sentence running concurrently.

This results in an effective eight-year prison sentence. The court also declared her unfit to possess a firearm.

In considering mitigation, the court acknowledged the accused’s cooperation with law enforcement, her guilty plea, and time already served in custody awaiting trial.
