Limpopo Police Constable Arrested With Accomplices In Planned Business Robbery

A Limpopo police constable has been arrested alongside two suspects after a business robbery at the Giyani D2 store on Friday. Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed that the suspects, aged between 26 and 38, were nabbed following swift community intervention.

“Police arrived at the scene, arrested a male suspect wearing a police reflector jacket, and another male emerged, alleging that his motor vehicle was stolen,” said Mashaba. The man later claimed the person who drove off with his vehicle was his friend, adding to suspicions of a coordinated crime.

Inside the Planned Robbery in Limpopo

According to police investigations, the robbery was premeditated and executed under the guise of an official inspection. The constable, stationed at Thohoyandou Public Order Police (POP), allegedly joined two accomplices in posing as officers checking for expired food products.

“The suspects then threatened the complainant and stole money from the till counter,” Mashaba revealed. Community members, noticing the suspicious activity, confronted the men. One suspect wearing a reflector jacket was apprehended, while the getaway driver initially escaped.

Investigators later determined that the supposed victim of vehicle theft was, in fact, the police officer involved in the crime. All three suspects were arrested, with R1 020 in cash and a police reflector jacket confiscated as evidence. They are scheduled to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 August 2025.
