Limpopo Police Call For Calm After Shawela Murder Sparks Protests
Tensions flared in Shawela Village, outside Giyani, on Monday morning, 18 August 2025, after residents took to the streets demanding justice for a woman who was fatally stabbed, allegedly by her boyfriend.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 August 2025, and the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Enraged community members blocked roads in protest, calling for swift police action. The brutal killing has left the village in shock and anger, fueling public demand for urgent intervention.
Police Commissioner Urges Calm Amid Growing Unrest in Shawela
Responding to the unrest, Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, appealed to residents to remain calm while investigations continue.
“We wish to reiterate that we have already established a dedicated task team to track down the suspect, and the arrest of the suspect is imminent,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
While acknowledging the community’s pain and frustration, she warned that acts of lawlessness would not be tolerated and stressed the importance of allowing police to conduct their work without interference.
Police Appeal for Information to Track Down Suspect
Police have urged members of the public to assist in bringing the suspect to justice. Anonymous tip-offs can also be submitted via the MySAPSApp.
