Limpopo Pastor Thabiso Mongatane Sentenced To 15 Years For Rape

A 42-year-old Limpopo-based pastor, Thabiso Victor Mongatane, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for raping a 25-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2022, at Masodi village, where Mongatane convinced the victim to believe she had a condition requiring spiritual intervention.

He abused his powers as a pastor to manipulate and rape the vulnerable woman.
Investigation And Court Proceedings
The victim’s mother had fallen ill, and Mongatane was recommended to assist in curing her illness.

The 25-year-old woman drove her mother to Masodi village, where Mongatane attended to the ailing mother.
Later, he prophesied to the victim, telling her to return after two days for further assistance.
Upon her return, Mongatane ordered her to undress and cover her body for steaming, then took advantage of her and raped her during the treatment session.
Conviction And Sentencing

The Mahwelereng Regional Court convicted Mongatane of rape and sentenced him to 15 years’ direct imprisonment.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated that Mongatane was granted R1,000 bail until his conviction and sentencing.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, welcomed the conviction and sentencing of the pastor.
