Limpopo Man Arrested After Dismembered Body Of Elderly Mother Found In Bucket

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged brutal murder of his 87-year-old mother in Sebora Village, outside Polokwane. The horrifying incident came to light when neighbours, concerned about not seeing the elderly woman for two days, contacted the police on Saturday afternoon.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, officers responded around 3pm to a missing person report. Upon arrival at the woman’s home, they were met with a gruesome scene.

“The police immediately went to the home of the 87-year-old woman. Upon investigation, they were met by a very disturbing scene, where they discovered the woman’s dismembered body parts placed inside the plastic buckets,” Ledwaba confirmed.

Son Arrested After Failing to Explain Gruesome Scene

The woman’s 40-year-old son, who was at the house during the police visit, was taken into custody after he failed to provide a reasonable explanation for the horrifying discovery. Authorities also recovered several items believed to have been used during the commission of the crime.

While police have yet to establish a clear motive for the murder, investigations are ongoing. The suspect is expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face a charge of murder.

Police Commissioner Slams Heinous Crime

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the shocking act, linking it to the broader issue of violence in society.

“The scourge of gender-based violence has reached a crisis point. This pandemic needs all sectors of society to join hands with the police and confront this demon that continues to terrorise communities. Enough is enough,” said Hadebe.

Authorities are urging anyone with further information to come forward as they continue to piece together the events leading to the elderly woman’s death.
