SA Calls On Lillian Dube And Khanyi Mbau To “Intervene” As Vusi Nova Becomes A Sangoma “He’s Depressed”

South Africans are convinced we may have another celebrity joining the ever-growing list of celebrity sangomas — and this time, they’re calling for Khanyi Mbau and Mam Lillian Dube to step in immediately.
A video posted by content creator @musa_khawula shows award-winning singer Vusi Nova seemingly being welcomed back from initiation school. Musa captioned it: “Vusi Nova answers to his calling of being a sangoma.”

But the reaction? Pure chaos.
“Call Khanyi Mbau, This One Is Anxiety!” — SA Reacts
The moment the clip hit the TL, South Africans said: “Haibo, not another one!”
And instead of ululating, many started tagging Khanyi Mbau, reminding the country of her 2023 viral sermon where she declared:
“Urban sangomas. You do not have a calling. It’s anxiety. This is the most anxious generation.”
Khanyi didn’t hold back back then. She even said anxiety and depression can cause hallucinations:
“Anxiety is wild. You will hear drums, I swear… Stop buying cows, chickens and goats. Get magnesium, B12 and melatonin. That’s the only initiation you need.”

Then came Mam Lillian Dube in 2024, echoing the same sentiment, saying too many young people claiming “intwaso” are actually depressed, unemployed and overwhelmed:
“This sangoma thing. It amazes me, it looks like a trend like now. A lot of young people like you [Dineo] right now are accepting their calling [thwasa].”
“But when I look at what’s happening, I’m like no man, these kids are lying, they’re depressed. Unemployment is high, men don’t meet their needs anymore.”
So when South Africans saw Vusi Nova in traditional regalia, singing with other healers? They said the math was “mathing”.
Public Says Vusi Nova Is “Depressed, Not Called”
Many believe Vusi’s career struggles may have pushed him into a dark emotional place — and they insist it’s not a spiritual calling but a mental-health battle.
Here are some of the most savage reactions:
- @nothingye: “An upcoming artist since 2014 is now a sangoma? We live in a dystopian world.”
- @mazibukusimphiwe: “Khanyi Mbau said it. Look now.”
- @lavidanota: “Fake-ngoma? Getting the calling through the backdoor. Ancestors entering the exit!”
- @bagcineciliza: “Failed as an artist, now you’re a fake sangoma. Call Lillian Dube ASAP.”
- @tsheposes: “Every failed artist turns into a sangoma. Soccer players are next.”
- @mananambuyi: “He is definitely depressed like Khanyi said. Give him medication.”
- @ujobeuthami: “A bad trip from drugs is NOT a calling. Please.”
- @siyamsho: “Failed career → depression → anxiety → now sangoma.”
- @stapura2024 (actual sangoma): “As a fully trained sangoma, this is hogwash.”
