Life Imprisonment For Security Officer Who Killed Girlfriend With Official Firearm

Golden Mbalati, a 50-year-old security officer, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 51-year-old girlfriend in Limpopo.
The incident occurred on February 3, 2021, when Mbalati booked out his company’s firearm and left his duty at a clinic in Bellview.

He then requested his girlfriend to accompany him to pick fruit outside their home, where he brutally shot her in the upper body.
Investigation And Arrest
The case was investigated by Detective Constable Lerato Rampedi of Bolobedu detectives, who used her skills to track down Mbalati.

He was arrested in 2022, and although bail was initially denied, he was released by the court in 2023.
However, after being found guilty on March 17, 2025, Mbalati was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

Justice Served
Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed Mbalati’s sentencing, while commending Constable Lerato Rampedi for her relentless work in ensuring the culprit received a heavy punishment.
According to Hadebe, this sentence is a reminder of the consequences of violent crimes and the dedication of law enforcement agencies to bringing perpetrators to justice.
