Life Behind Bars For Father Who Raped And Impregnated His 13-Year-Old Daughter

Life Behind Bars For Father Who Raped And Impregnated His 13-Year-Old Daughter

A 59-year-old father will spend the rest of his life behind bars after the Oudtshoorn Regional Court convicted him of a prolonged campaign of rape against his own child. The court imposed a life sentence plus an additional 20 years’ imprisonment for the crimes, which included incest and sexual violation.

Father’s Historic Rape of Mother Preceded Assault on Daughter

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed the tragic background to the case. Regional spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed the accused fathered the victim after raping her mother when she was 16. Although previously convicted for that crime, a High Court appeal overturned the verdict.

“She expressed frustration as she felt that the justice system had failed her when the high court acquitted the accused of her rape. She felt that if the high court did not set aside the accused’s rape conviction, he would not have raped her daughter,” Ntabazalila stated.

“Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” Receives Maximum Sentence

During sentencing arguments, prosecutor Hyron Goulding told the court the accused “was supposed to protect her, but he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing”. Goulding detailed how the man meticulously planned the abuse, attacking the girl from age 13 whenever his wife was at work.

The court handed down a 10-year term for sexual violation, life imprisonment for rape, and 20 years for incest. It ordered the 10-year sentence to run concurrently with the life term, but the 20-year incest sentence will run separately.

Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Nicolette Bell, praised the outcome: “She also commended the victim and her for their resolve in getting justice against the accused, who committed an atrocious crime against a mother and her child, people he swore to love and protect. She once again committed the NPA to continue prosecuting cases of gender-based violence unabated”.
