Libode Man Arrested For Alleged Murder Of 72-Year-Old Employer In Staged Suicide

Police in the OR Tambo District have arrested a 52-year-old man from Dokotela locality after he allegedly murdered his 72-year-old employer and staged the crime scene to look like a suicide.

The victim, a 72-year-old man, was found dead in his home on Tuesday, 12 August, hanging from the roof. However, a preliminary investigation revealed that he had first been strangled with a rope by two suspects before being hanged to make it appear as though he had taken his own life.

According to police, the motive was allegedly robbery, as the suspects reportedly knew that the victim kept money in a safe at his house.

Arrest of Family Chauffeur and Hunt for Second Suspect

The man arrested on Friday, 15 August, was the deceased’s chauffeur. His alleged accomplice is still at large, and police are intensifying efforts to track him down.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Libode Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 August, on charges of murder.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, welcomed the swift arrest and condemned the brutality of the crime.

“This was a well-orchestrated murder and police will get to the bottom of this so that perpetrators can be brought to book for such inhumane act. Justice has to be served for the 72-year-old,” said Major General Modishana.
