Landlord Takes Cat Matlala To Court Over Unpaid Rent

Suspected cartel boss and attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is facing yet another legal blow — this time from his landlord.

According to SowetanLIVE, Menlyn Maine Towers in Tshwane has launched a lawsuit against Matlala for R258,890 in unpaid rent for office space he had leased.

Court papers filed at the Gauteng High Court in Tshwane claim Matlala stopped paying rent for several months, allegedly because of a “cashflow problem”.

Attempted Murder Case Deepens Matlala’s Legal Troubles

Matlala’s financial dispute comes on top of serious criminal charges. He was arrested in May 2025 for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, actress and social media influencer Tebogo Thobejane.

Both Matlala and his wife, Tsakani, were arrested in connection with the incident. She was released on R20,000 bail, while Matlala remained behind bars at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.

The case was moved to the High Court in Johannesburg in November after his lawyer, Victor Nkhwashu, withdrew. The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court also denied Matlala bail, ruling that he posed a flight risk.

Matlala’s legal woes escalated further when he appeared before an Ad Hoc Committee from 26 to 28 November 2025. The committee was established to probe alleged corruption within the criminal justice system after multiple witnesses implicated him.

He claimed he had bribed former police minister Bheki Cele and had met KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, alleging the commissioner asked him a favour and shared personal details about an investigation.

Matlala also testified about his relationships with senior police officials, including Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi and KwaZulu-Natal Hawks boss General Lesetja Senona, whom he described as being “like his brother”.
