KZN Woman Paige Bell Found Dead On Luxury Yacht in Bahamas: Murder Investigation Underway

A murder investigation is under way after 20-year-old South African woman Paige Bell was found dead aboard a luxury superyacht in the Bahamas. The incident occurred on July 3 aboard the vessel Far From It, docked at Harbour Island in the district of Eleuthera.

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, authorities responded to an alert around 1pm and discovered Paige’s lifeless body in the engine room of the yacht. She had visible injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.

A 40-year-old male suspect, identified as Brigido Munoz, of Mexican nationality, was found nearby with severe arm injuries, in what police suspect may have been a suicide attempt.

“Once on board the vessel, officers discovered a female unresponsive with visible signs of injuries and a male suffering from severe injuries to his arms,” said the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

“As police investigated further, it was discovered that the victim was missing for a short period before being found unresponsive in the engine room with the male suspect present.”

The suspect was apprehended at the scene and taken to a nearby clinic for treatment. He has since appeared in court, and the case has been remanded to July 20.

Paige Bell Remembered: “The Happiest, Most Bubbly Person”

Paige Bell, originally from KwaZulu-Natal, had plans to return home on July 14 to celebrate her 21st birthday with her family and friends. Her sudden and tragic death has sent shockwaves through her community and beyond.

Her former school, Hillcrest High School, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media:
“It is with great sadness that we offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends, and all who knew and loved former Hillcrest High School pupil, Paige Bell.

Paige matriculated in 2022 and is remembered by our HHS community as an incredibly special young lady who was the happiest, most bubbly person.”

The school added, “We know that her untimely and tragic death is a great loss to all who knew Paige, and beyond devastating to her parents and family. As a school, we will be holding them in our thoughts and prayers.”

Support Pours In: GoFundMe Raises Over R700,000 for Family

In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Paige Bell’s family with repatriation and other expenses. The fundraiser has already surpassed R700,000 in donations, reflecting an outpouring of sympathy from across South Africa and abroad.

As the investigation continues in the Bahamas, South Africans at home are rallying around the Bell family, grieving the loss of a young woman described by many as full of life and promise.
