KZN Woman Battles Neighbour Over Missing Gold Jewels Of Sentimental Value

A 64-year-old woman from Madrona Drive in Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, turned to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after her neighbour refused to return borrowed jewellery of deep sentimental value.
The woman, who is semi-blind and in poor health, told officers she had lent her neighbour a pair of earrings and two 18-carat gold rings months ago. However, despite repeated requests, the jewels have not been returned.
Jewels Gifted by Late Mother in 1967
According to the complainant, the earrings and rings were gifted to her by her mother in 1967, when she was just six years old and in class one. Her mother passed away 33 years ago, making the items irreplaceable keepsakes.
Fearing that her declining health could mean she passes away without being able to hand down the heirlooms to her children, the distressed woman reached out to RUSA for assistance.

When reaction officers questioned the neighbour, she admitted borrowing the jewellery but claimed she had since lent the items to extended family members who disappeared with them.

The neighbour has now requested a few days to recover the jewels and return them to the rightful owner.
