Expose Crooks In Blue: KZN Police Call On Durban Residents To Name Rogue Officers

KwaZulu-Natal police have called on residents in the Durban CBD to come forward with information about alleged criminal activity involving rogue police officers.

The appeal follows reports that some officers are allegedly working with criminals in the Point area, a part of Durban’s South Beach long associated with serious crime, including drug dens.

Police operations in the area have already led to the arrest of undocumented foreign nationals and suspected drug dealers.

Police Commissioner Speaks Out on Corruption Claims

KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said communities must take a stand against corruption within law enforcement.

“In the area you are talking about at Point police station, there are a number of police officers that have been subjected to departmental cases, and there are a lot of officers that were arrested and charged for being associated or being involved in the wrong things that are happening in that area,” Mkhwanazi said.

He stressed that public cooperation is key to rooting out criminal elements within the police.

‘If You See Something, Say Something’ Durban Residents Told

Mkhwanazi urged residents to report suspicious behaviour involving police officers, particularly interactions that raise red flags.

“When you see police officers engaging with communities sitting in a vehicle, a community member comes and leans against the police car. We don’t encourage such behavior. If a police officer is going to engage with the community, they must get out of the car and be able to engage with a person face-to-face,” he said.

The commissioner also raised concerns about police officers being arrested for committing crimes using state resources, including standard-issue firearms.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ongoing investigations and disciplinary action against officers found to be abusing their positions.
