KZN Police To Tighten Border Security This Festive Season, Warns Commissioner Mkhwanazi

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has announced that the province’s borders will be under tight security as the festive season approaches. Speaking during the provincial safety season launch on Thursday, Mkhwanazi emphasised that law enforcement agencies are ready to deal firmly with any criminal activity.

KZN is expecting a surge in visitors as tourists flock to the province for the holidays. Mkhwanazi made it clear that lawlessness will not be tolerated, especially in high-traffic areas and border regions.

KZN shares borders with eSwatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique, and authorities anticipate increased movement along these routes. Mkhwanazi said that officers will be on high alert to maintain order and safety throughout the festive period.

“So, therefore, together with our traffic department and other law enforcement, the Road Traffic Inspectorate and other stakeholders, we’ve developed a plan to police this influx and movement,” he explained.

Commissioner Urges Motorists To Obey The Law And Report Corruption

Mkhwanazi also urged drivers to comply with all lawful instructions from law enforcement officers. “So, we urge all motorists to respect these rules of law and obey all lawful instructions from all law enforcement officers – don’t bribe them,” he said.

He further called on the public to play their part in curbing corruption within law enforcement ranks.

“If we ask for anything, you have a responsibility to report that, take the details of that traffic officer or law enforcement officer who is not doing what he is supposed to do but is asking for a bribe,” Mkhwanazi stated.

With several major events, including a big football match, scheduled to take place in the province, authorities say they are fully prepared to ensure safety and order across all districts.
