KZN Police Fatally Shoot Suspect Linked To Attempted Cop Murder, Recover Firearms

A shootout erupted in KwaDabeka, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, resulting in the death of a suspect linked to the attempted murder of two police officers.
According to SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the suspect was part of a heavily armed group also tied to a separate murder case in Inanda. Two other suspects were wounded during the gun battle and taken to the hospital under police guard.

“On Tuesday, 29 July 2025, two police officers were on duty and driving along Danisa Road, at Bester area, when they were shot at by at least ten suspects. During the incident, police managed to return fire, and the suspects fled,” said Netshiunda.
The injured officers were hospitalised with minor injuries, prompting an immediate intelligence-driven operation to track down the suspects.
Police Track Down Suspects to KK Hostel
Acting on a lead, officers traced four suspects to a room inside KwaDabeka’s KK Hostel the following day. As officers approached the premises, they came under fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“When officers approached the room in which the suspects were hiding, the suspects started firing shots towards police officers, and a shootout ensued. One suspect was shot and fatally wounded during the shootout,” Netshiunda confirmed.
Three suspects attempted to escape through a window. Two were later found outside with gunshot wounds and transported to the hospital under SAPS watch. No officers were harmed during the operation.
