KZN Education Department Condemns Fraudulent Employment Offers

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education is investigating fraud claims against Ms. Amahle Nene-Sishi, who is suspected of deceiving job seekers with false promises of teaching employment in exchange for money. The department strongly denied any association with Nene-Sishi and criticised her acts of fraud.

Details of the Alleged Scam

Ms. Nene-Sishi reportedly exploited job seekers’ desperation by falsely offering teaching positions. To boost her credibility, she is accused of using images with high officials, including KwaZulu-Natal’s MEC (Member of the Executive Council) for Education, Mr. Sipho Hlomuka, to give the impression that she had the power to assist department employment.

Official Response and Condemnation

MEC Sipho Hlomuka has said that neither he nor any other official in the department are participating in these criminal activities. He has advised scam victims to report the incidents to law enforcement authorities.

“We strongly condemn any form of corruption and fraudulent misrepresentation. I urge all individuals who have been defrauded to report these incidents to the police immediately. The Department has already escalated this matter to law enforcement agencies for urgent investigation, and we will fully cooperate to ensure that justice is served,” said MEC Sipho Hlomuka.

This incident occurs against broader challenges within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education. Recent reports have revealed suspicions of bribery and sexual favours being solicited in exchange for teaching positions. The report described an incident in which an official reportedly demanded 30,000 rand from a graduate teacher seeking employment. When the teacher couldn’t pay the money, the official allegedly said the teacher wouldn’t get the job.

These charges came after reports of over 25,000 employment teachers in KwaZulu-Natal, despite the province’s 7,000 teacher shortages. The KZN Department of Education earned the greatest budget allocation in the area that year, totalling 63 billion Rands, which has drawn criticism from opposition parties.
