KZN Cop Sentenced To Double Life Imprisonment For Murder Of Husband, Family Friend

A KwaZulu-Natal police officer, Ntombizodwa Ntinga, was sentenced to double life imprisonment after being found guilty of murdering her husband and a family friend.

Ntinga was sentenced in the Mtubatuba High Court for the brutal killings of her husband, Warrant Officer Nkosinathi Ntinga, 49, and their family friend, Mpendulo Mdluli, 34.

The tragic events unfolded at their Phathane homestead on August 1, 2023.

Horrific Crime

The crimes occurred when the victims were accosted by armed assailants at their home.

Ntinga, her husband, and Mdluli were held at gunpoint by 22-year-old Samkelo Mpanza and his accomplice.

The perpetrators robbed the police officers of their service pistols and cellphones before kidnapping the victims.

Mdluli was severely beaten and pushed out of a moving vehicle, while Warrant Officer Ntinga was found with multiple gunshot wounds near the Msunduzi River.

Mdluli later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. 

Arrests And Sentencing

The accused were arrested within 24 hours of the crime.

Ntinga was sentenced to life for each of the murders, a 15-year sentence for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and 5 years for kidnapping.

Mpanza was sentenced to 25 years for each murder, 14 years for robbery, and 4 years for each kidnapping.
