KwaZulu-Natal Deploys 177 New Traffic Officers As Transport Month Kicks Off

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has vowed to tighten road safety measures and clamp down on lawlessness across the province. As part of this initiative, 177 new traffic officers have been deployed to bolster patrols and increase visibility on major routes.

The department revealed that most accidents occur along key highways such as the N3 and N2, prompting authorities to intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts.

Transport Month Focuses on Discipline and Visibility

With October marking Transport Month, MEC Siboniso Duma emphasised that his department would not tolerate reckless behaviour on the roads.

“And already we’ve started ensuring that our visibility every day we are on the ground,” Duma stated.

He noted that the increased presence of officers is aimed at improving driver discipline and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.

Duma also sent a strong warning to traffic officers about engaging in corrupt practices or accepting bribes.

“We’ve just given them one thing; don’t take any incentives. Whoever is found guilty just ensure that they are arrested. Whoever drives beyond 140 km per hour, that person must be arrested,” he said.

The MEC’s firm stance signals a renewed commitment to restoring order on KwaZulu-Natal’s roads and prioritising safety for all motorists.
