Kraaifontein Mass Shooting: SAPS Arrests Key Suspect And Recovers Firearm

National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, briefed the media on Sunday following the killing of six people in Kraaifontein, Cape Town. The victims included four women and two men.

Within hours of the incident, police arrested a 49-year-old suspect believed to be linked to the murders. “The firearm that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime was found hidden in a shop of a foreign national in the Kraaifontein area,” General Masemola confirmed.

Firearm Seized and Foreign Nationals Arrested

Three foreign nationals, including the shop owner, were also taken into custody after being found in possession of the illegal firearm and ammunition. The weapon has since been sent for ballistics testing.

For now, the 49-year-old suspect has been linked to a double murder involving two women. “In terms of linking him to the other scenes, police are still conducting identity parades with witnesses,” said Masemola.

He added that officers remain on the ground, pursuing leads and that more arrests could follow.

Police also made progress in another high-profile case. A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested following the murder of a man outside the Athlone Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

The suspect, who sustained gunshot wounds during a clash with gang members, was traced to a local hospital where he was under treatment. “Our members are still on the ground following leads, we cannot rule out the possibility of effecting more arrests in this case,” General Masemola noted.
