Klerksdorp’s DJ Ronny Mere Killed In Home Attack, Wife Also Shot

Popular DJ Ronny Mere was gunned down at his home in La Hoff, Matlosana, Klerksdorp, during a brazen late-night attack.

The fatal shooting has sent shockwaves across the country, especially as it comes just weeks after broadcaster Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock was killed in Johannesburg CBD.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Ronny Mere, a well-known DJ in the Klerksdorp scene, who was shot dead at his home in the La Hoff complex in the early hours of Tuesday, 3 February 2026. His wife was also shot during the attack and rushed to hospital.

Police are now investigating the incident as a possible assassination, and Mzansi is asking uncomfortable questions.

According to North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh, the attack happened between 1am and 2am when five armed suspects allegedly stormed the residential complex after overpowering the security guard at the gate.

Two suspects reportedly stayed behind while three gunmen forced their way into Ronny Mere’s home, kicking the door open before opening fire. Mere was shot in the upper body and died at the scene. His 37-year-old wife was also shot in the upper body and later admitted to hospital, where she is currently in stable condition.

After the shooting, the gunmen allegedly moved to a second residence. The male occupant fled after hearing the gunshots and was fired at while escaping — thankfully, he was not injured. He later alerted police.

Before fleeing, the suspects reportedly kicked open several doors and threatened residents to leave their homes, adding to the terror of the night.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced Ronny Mere dead on the scene. Police are investigating one murder and two counts of attempted murder.

As news of Mere’s death spread, Facebook was flooded with heartbreak, anger and disbelief from fans and friends — many of whom say they never met him in person but felt deeply connected to him online.

Tsietsi Mohale wrote: “This is painful 💔. We hope justice will be served. All we knew of you was your deep house music, your wife, your daughters and your jokes. You were always willing to help people. Go well, brother Ronny Mere.”

Lebogang Maeko reflected on the eerie timing: “On 2 February last year, Kgantsho Pule was buried. She was one of my favourite Facebook friends. The same day this year Ronny Mere passes on. I am shattered and out of words 💔😭.”

Elizabeth Mano shared a chilling moment of realisation: “Ronny Mere’s mother once commented on my post. Not knowing a year later, on the same day, she would receive a call no parent should ever get. I screamed in disbelief.”

The tragedy has sparked renewed fears about the targeting of DJs and media personalities, with many drawing parallels between Mere’s killing and other high-profile shootings in recent months.
